Hadiths regarding turning up trousers/pants

Hadiths regarding turning up trousers/pants

Ibn Abbas (radiAllahu anhu) narrates that the Messenger of Allah
(sallAllahu alaihi wa aalihi wa sallam) said, "I was commanded to prostrate
myself on the seven [bones] and forbidden to fold back hair and
clothing. [The seven bones are] forehead, nose, hands, knees and feet." (Sahih
Muslim: Book 4, Number 995)

Ibn Abbas (radiAllahu anhu) narrates that the Messenger of Allah
(sallAllahu alaihi wa aalihi wa sallam) was ordered [by Allah, Subhanahu wa
Ta'Ala] to prostrate on seven parts and not to tuck up the clothes or
hair [while praying]. Those parts are: the forehead [along with the tip
of nose], both hands, both knees, and [toes of] both feet. (Sahih
al-Bukhari: Volume 1, Book 12, Number 773)

In light of these two Ahadith the Ulama have stated that turning up
your trousers to pray salaah is makrooh-e-tahreemi and would therefore
make your salaah wajib to repeat.

Having your trousers below the ankles on purpose due to pride or
arrogance is haraam. If your trousers are below the ankles for any other
reason then it is makrooh-e-tanzeehi and this would not make it wajib to
repeat your salaah but you would lose reward.

Hazrat Abdullah ibn Umar (radiAllahu anhu) narrates that the Beloved
Prophet (sallAllahu alaihi wa aalihi wa sallam) said, "He who lets his
clothes fall or lets them drag on the ground and he does this out of
arrogance Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta'Ala) will not look at him with Mercy on
the Day of Judgement. Hearing this Hazrat Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (radiAllahu
anhu) asked the Beloved Prophet (sallAllahu alaihi wa aalihi wa
sallam), "O Messenger of Allah, what if I forget and unintentionally my
Tahband (my lower garment) falls or touches the ground?" The Beloved Prophet
(sallAllahu alaihi wa aalihi wa sallam) replied "O my friend Abu Bakr
you are not amongst the Khuyala" (meaning you do not do this out of
arrogance). (Sahih Bukhari)

This above Hadith shows all Muslims that it is forbidden to drag your
clothing or let it fall lower then your ankle when you are doing it
intentionally and when you do it with arrogance and pride. If it is done
unintentionally and without arrogance the Beloved Prophet (sallAllahu
alaihi wa aalihi wa sallam) permits it.

Hazrat Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (radiAllahu anhu) said that, "We were sitting
with the Beloved Prophet (sallAllahu alaihi wa aalihi wa sallam) and
there was a solar eclipse. The Beloved Prophet (sallAllahu alaihi wa
aalihi wa sallam) quickly got up, in the state that, when he was rushing
his tahband (his lower garment) was touching the ground until he entered
the Masjid with the people. And in that same state the Beloved Prophet
(sallAllahu alaihi wa aalihi wa sallam) offered his Salaat ul-Qusoof
(solar salaah) (Sahih Bukhari)

Muhammad bin Salam ne bayan kiya kaha hum ko abdullah ne khabar de oonhe younus ne. oonhe imaam hasa basary ne aur oon se abu bakar radiyallahu anhu ne bayan kiya k suraj grahan hota to hum nabi kareem    صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم k saath the. Aap صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم jaldi me kapda ghasit te hue masjid me tashrif laae log bhi jama ho gaye. Huzur صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم ne do rakat namaz padhai, grahan khatam ho gaya tab Huzur صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم hamary taraf mutawajjeh hue aur farmaya suraj aur chand ALLAH ki nishaani me se do nishaniya hai is liye jab tum in nishaniyo me se koi nishaani dekho to namaz padho aur ALLAH se dua karo yaha tak k wo khatam na ho jaye. (volume 7, book 72,5785, sahih bukhari, bab: agar kisi ka kapda aise hi latak jaaye takabbbu ki niyyat na ho to gunahgaar nahi).Trnaslated by maulan daud raaz

In the above Hadith the Beloved Prophet (sallAllahu alaihi wa aalihi wa
sallam) is offering salaah whilst his blessed tahband is touching the
ground, which definitely means his blessed tahband was lower than his
ankles. There are Islamic rules to be learnt from all the Ahadith quoted
in this answer. In some Ahadith, Muslims have been told strictly to
ensure that the tahband (lower garment) is above the ankles whilst in
other Ahadith the Beloved Prophet (sallAllahu alaihi wa aalihi wa sallam)
has permitted the tahband to stay lower then the ankles as long as it
is not done with takkabur (pride) and for arrogance, due to the fact
when Hazrat Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (radiAllahu anhu) asked the Beloved Prophet
(sallAllahu alaihi wa aalihi wa sallam), he (sallAllahu alaihi wa
aalihi wa sallam) said it is permissable for you because you do not do it
for arrogance.

Above hadith in roman urdu

AAp صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم ne farmaaya tum oon logo me se nahi ho jo aisa takbbur karte hai (volume 7, book 72,5784, sahihi bukhari, bab; Agar kisi ka kapda aise hi latak jaye, takabbur ki niyyat na ho o gunah gaar na hoga) exact reference.....Trnaslated by maulan daud raaz

Major Points:

1. It is always best to follow the way of the Beloved Prophet
(sallAllahu alaihi wa aalihi wa sallam) and to keep you clothing above your
ankles due to the fact this is Afzal and is Awla.

2. If somebody lets his clothing fall below the ankle and does this out
of takkabur then the Ulama say this is makrooh-e-tahreemi (i.e. it is
close to haraam.) And if somebody does this out takkabur and offers
salaah in this state, then that Salaah is Wajib ul-Iradah, it has to be
repeated because the salaah is not accepted due to the takkabur.

3. If somebody's clothing sometimes falls below the ankle but he
doesn't do this out of takkabur then this is makrooh-e-tanzeehi, it is
disliked but it is not haraam or makrooh-e-tahreemi.

4. Folding your clothing from the bottom of the trousers or your lower
garment, is known as kaf-e-sawb (the folding of garments) and in the
blessed Ahadith we have been told not to do this, it is not permissible,
it is Mam'noo. Therfore the brothers who perform the kaf-e-sawb only
for salaah they are doing wrong.

Verily, Allah Subhan Wa Ta'Ala and HIS Messenger know the best !

NOw folding clothes before namaz isnt new invention in ISLAM??????
