KISSING TO MAZAARS

(Mazaars ko Chumna Jaayez) by Qabr-e-Mubaraks of Awliyas –Saudi Arabian Islamic Scholar:

QUESTION : Is it allowed to Kiss the Qabr?


ANSWER: 
[A Summary of the teachings of Saudi Arabian Sunni Islamic Scholar Shaykh As-Sayyid Muhammad ibn `Alawi al-Maliki of Makkah al-Mukarramah]

The issue of kissing is often (deliberately) misunderstood. Kissing is a natural human behaviour. One could kiss someone out of love, respect, honour, desire, or maybe even worship. It depends on your intention - the reason why you do it. However, some individuals insist on interpreting all types of kissing as worship. There is no real basis for this view, as it is not found anywhere in the Quran or the Sunnah. Nabi Muhammad, sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, used to kiss the black stone, and thus, by the Prophet's action one can clearly see that there is a distinction between merely kissing and worshipping. And even as this stone is the stone from Heaven (as in Nasai, Tirmidhi and Hakim), so are the Prophets, sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, and the saints the People of Heaven.

These individuals then proceed to label Muslims who may kiss them out of veneration or love as Mushriks or Kafir. This labeling is the real act of Kufr.

There is an interesting story about a man who condemned the kissing of the Awliya and the descendants of Nabi Muhammad, sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, as Shirk and Worship of other Humans. When he was seen kissing his own son, he was asked why he was now worshipping his son. He said that he kissed his son out of love. The people responded by saying that they, too, kissed the family of Nabi Muhammad, sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, out of love. The man then kept quiet.

It is for this reason, the reason of love and respect, that visitors to the Qubur of the Ahlul Bayt, Sahabah, and Awliya kiss their respective Qubur.

If individuals insist on holding the view that kissing a Qabr is an act of worship, let them prove it from Qur'an and Sunnah, and not merely give an opinion based on their hawa, or base desire.

    • There are many Hadith which show that the Sahabah used to kiss the grave of Nabi Muhammad, sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam: Ibn Asakir in Tarikh Dimashq, al-Samhudi in Wafa al-Wafa and al-Imam al-Mujtahid al- Subki in Shifa as-Siqam bi-ziyarat Khayr al-Anaam, narrate that when Sayyidina Bilal,radi Allahu `anh, came back to Madinah after many years, he went straight to the Honourable Qabr of Nabi Muhammad, sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, and fell down and put his forehead on the Qabr, and kissed it, saying, "Oh my beloved, Rasulullah, sall- Allahu `alayhi wa sallam."

      This was an expression of his love for Nabi Muhammad, sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam. No doubt, some of todays "shaykhs" would label Sayyidina Bilal a "Mushrik", claiming that he was worshipping the Prophet, sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam! Astaghfirullah.

      Tabarani narrates that Abu Ayyub al-Ansari, radi Allahu `anh, the Great Sahabi, once put his head on the honourable Qabr of Nabi Muhammad, sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, and kissed it. The Umayyad ruler, Marwan bin al-Hakam, a notorious man, asked Abu Ayyub why he was worshipping the stone. Abu Ayyub replied that he was visiting Nabi Muhammad, sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, and not a stone. Someone then intervened and warned Marwan not to interfere with Abu Ayyub, radi Allahu `anh, as he was one of the Companions of Nabi Muhammad, sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, and Marwan let him be.

      Thus, when we visit the tombs of the Ahl al-Bayt and the Awliya, we are expressing our love for them, as Sayyidina Bilal and Sayyidina Abu Ayyub, not worshipping them.
       Imam al-Qastalani narrates in his Mawahib Ladunniyyah that when Nabi Muhammad, sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, died, his daughter, Sayyidah Fatimah, radi Allahu `anha', took sand from His Qabr and put it over her face and wept, saying: "Maza ala man shamma Turbata Ahmadin an laa yashumma madaz Zamaani Ghawaliya (The person who has smelt the dust of the Grave of Nabi Muhammad, sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, does not need to smell any perfume ever again)

    • In other words, the Dust on the Qabr of Nabi Muhammad, sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, has a better fragrance than any perfume in the world. This is what Imam al-Busiri said in his world famous Qasidat al-Burdah and some ignorant 'shaykhs' called him a Kafir too.

      Would some of todays "shaykhs" also condemn Sayyidah Fatimah's act of Love, radi Allahu `anha'! Astaghfirullah!!


    • Ibn Hisham narrates that when Nabi Muhammad, sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, had passed away, Sayyidina Abu Bakr As-Siddiq, radi Allahu `anh, went to kiss his forehead and said, "How blessed and perfumed are you when you are alive, and how blessed and perfumed are you when you have passed away." Was he making Shirk?

      These are evidences from the Sahabah. And the same Nabi Muhammad, sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, who instructed us to destroy all the idols also instructed us to kiss the black stone - not for worship - but because of the stones closeness to Allah, subhana Hu wa Ta`ala. We draw an analogy between this stone and the tombs of the Awliya.

      The Ka'bah is also a stone building. We pray towards it and tawaf around it. Does imply worship? No! The Ka'bah represents the presence Allah, subhanaHu wa Ta`ala, just as the shrines of the Awliya are places where Allah's, subhanaHu wa Ta`ala, Rahmah descends.

      We also pray at the Maqam Ibrahim, as we are clearly instructed to in the Holy Qur'an (1:125): "And take Maqam Ibrahim as a place of Prayer" (wat takhizu min Maqam Ibrahima Musalla ) . Maqam Ibrahim is merely a large slab of stone containing the footprints of Nabi Ibrahim, `alayhi-s-salam. It is thousands of years old, and is not even a grave, nor the physical feet of Nabi Ibrahim, `alayhi-s-salam. Is praying there Shirk or Kufr? If not, then why condemn praying at the tomb of Nabi Muhammad, sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, and the Awliya of his Ummah?!!


    • Imaam Al-Dhahabi narrates in Majmu' Shuyukh al-Dhahabi (vol.1 p.72-74) that the son of Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal said to his father that people touch and kiss the Qabr of Nabi Muhammad, sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, to get the Barakah. Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal replied that there was no problem with that (la ba'sa bihi).

      Imam al-Dhahabi went on to explain that: "Only some of the Sahabah did this, as the Sahabah had (obviously) seen Nabi Muhammad, sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, when he was alive, had close interaction with him, kissed his hand, fought over his Wudu water, distributed his Hair for Barakah, and even took his spit and rubbing it over their faces (as in Bukhari in clear words). But those who had not met Nabi Muhammad, sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, express their love by going to his Qabr, and kissing and touching it".


    •  Imaam Al-Ghazali says in his famous work Minhaj al-'Abideen (p.347) that the Wali of Allah reaches such a state that: "Allah gives Barakah in his Breath, Speech, Clothes, Company, places where he sat and even the Sand he walked on".

      If the Barakah IS THERE, what is wrong if we try to get it???

      We Ask: If we kiss the cloth over the Ka'bah because inside it is the House of Allah, And the cover of the Quran because inside it is the Book of Allah.THEN why can't we kiss the cloth over a Tomb because inside it is a Wali of Allah??

      Some ignorant and misguided people, upon losing all arguments, then go on to question the integrity of the Honourable Awliya and say: How do we know Status in the Akhirah?

      For them, the following Two Hadith's from Bukhari (Kitab al-Jan'iz) should suffice:

      It is narrated that once a Janazah went pass the Prophet ( (sal-lal-lahu alai hi wa sallam)), and some of his

      Companions praised the dead person, so the Prophet ( (sal-lal-lahu alai hi wa sallam)) said: "It has been affirmed to him". They asked What?. He said "The Jannah", giving the reason for it as "You are the Witnesses of Allah on this Earth" (Antum Shuhad'a Allah fil Ard).

      The Prophet, sall-Allahu `alayhi wa sallam, also said: "Any Muslim, who is attested by four people to have Good Nature-Allah will enter him into Paradise".


    • Muhammad Aslam Idris We say, the Awliya of this Ummah are attested by Millions of Pious Muslims to be from the Friends of Allah, how can one then still question their Imaan?

      How can such an evil thought even occur in a Muslim's mind concerning those who are honoured by both Allah and his Creation?

      To have a bad opinion of an ordinary Human Being is a sin, let alone to question the Imaan of those Saints whose holy lives and examples have inspired generations of True Believers in Allah.

      Point: If an accusation is made that people are kissing the Awliya out of worship, it remains the onus of the accusers to prove this, as we are all Muslims who say, "La ilaha ill-Allah, Muhammadun Rasul Allah."

      To brand a Muslim as a Kafir is one of the gravest sins in Islam. We worship Allah, subhanaHu wa Ta`ala, and honour his friends.

      Shirk is related to one's internal belief concerning Allah, it is not about kissing and respecting. To consider acts of love and respect as Shirk is a trivialization of the concept of Shirk. In fact, to call Muslims as Mushriks on issues of difference is the real Bid'ah that is plaguing the Ummah of Islam.

Isliye Mazarat E AULIYA me bhi Gilaaaf chadaya jaata hai taaki Sahibe kabr ki Azmaat Waqaar ka izhar hojaye aur pata chale ye koi aam kabr nahi balki Auliya ki Kabr Hai. Allah Ki Nishaniyo Ka Tazeemi Hukm ذٰلِكَ وَمَن يُعَظِّم شَعائِرَ اللَّهِ فَإِنَّها مِن تَقوَى القُلوبِ “Aur Jo Allah Ki Nishaniyo Ki Tazeem Kare To Ye Dilo Ki Parhejgaari Se Hai” (Surah 22 Al Hajj Ayat 32) ذٰلِكَ وَمَن يُعَظِّم حُرُماتِ اللَّهِ فَهُوَ خَيرٌ لَهُ عِندَ رَبِّهِ “Aur Jo Allah Ki Hurmato Ki Taazim Kare To Wo Uske Liye Rab k Yaha Bhala

Aur Iski Asl Hadees E Paak Se Sabit Hai chunache Bukhari Sharif Me 03 Makam aur Sunan Nasai me 03 makam aur bhi deegar kutoob e hadees me ye hadees mauzood hai mulahiza kare.
Hadees :
ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ ـ رضى الله عنهما ـ عَنِ النَّبِيِّ صلى الله عليه وسلم أَنَّهُ مَرَّ بِقَبْرَيْنِ يُعَذَّبَانِ فَقَالَ ‏"‏ إِنَّهُمَا لَيُعَذَّبَانِ وَمَا يُعَذَّبَانِ فِي كَبِيرٍ أَمَّا أَحَدُهُمَا فَكَانَ لاَ يَسْتَتِرُ مِنَ الْبَوْلِ، وَأَمَّا الآخَرُ فَكَانَ يَمْشِي بِالنَّمِيمَةِ ‏"‏‏.‏ ثُمَّ أَخَذَ جَرِيدَةً رَطْبَةً فَشَقَّهَا بِنِصْفَيْنِ، ثُمَّ غَرَزَ فِي كُلِّ قَبْرٍ وَاحِدَةً‏.‏ فَقَالُوا يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، لِمَ صَنَعْتَ هَذَا فَقَالَ ‏"‏ لَعَلَّهُ أَنْ يُخَفَّفَ عَنْهُمَا مَا لَمْ يَيْبَسَا ‏
Translation :
Hazrat Abdullah ibn Abbas Radi Allaho Anho Se rivayat Hai Huzoor Sayadul Mursaleen صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم Ka Guzar 02 Kabro k paas Se Huwa To Aap صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم ne farmaya inko Kisi badi Galti ki Wajah Se Aazab Nahi Horaha hai, balki inme se ek peshab ki Cheent(boond) se nahi bachta Tha Aur Dusra Chugal Khori Kiya Karta Tha.
Huzoor صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم ne jab un dono kabro me aazab dekha to Aapne Khazoor Ki Ek Sabz Shaak Lekar Uske 02 Tukde Farmaye Aur Dono Kabro par eke k Gaad Diya.
Sahaba E Kiram Rizwanallahu azmain ne jab Aap k is amal ko dekha to arz kiya YA RASOOL ALLAH صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم Aapne Aisa Kyu Kiya ?
Is Par Sarkar E Do Aalam صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم ne farmaya
لَعَلَّهُ أَنْ يُخَفَّفَ عَنْهُمَا مَا لَمْ يَيْبَسَا

Pehle is Hadees E Paak Ki Shara Dekhe Sahi Bukhari ki Sabse Motebar Maane Jaani Waali Shara wahabi Bahot Dawa karte hai maan ne ka Lekin Maante kuch nahi Imam Ibn Hajar Asqalani Futoohul Baari Shara E Sahi Bukhari kya likhte hai. إن المعنى فيه أن يسبح ما دام رطباً فيحصل التخفيف ببركة التسبيح، وعلى هذا فيطرد في كل ما فيه رطوبة من الأشجار وغيرها. وكذلك فيما فيه بركة كالذكر وتلاوة القرآن من باب الأولى
Translation:
Iska Maana Ye Hai k Jab Tak Shake’in Taaza Rahengi Ye Tasbeeh Karengi Aur USKI BARKAT se Azaab Me Takfeef Rahegi.
Is Se Ye Bhi Maloom Huwa k wo har chiz jo taaza rahe jisme Taazgi ho Ped Paudo (Trees/Plant) Me Daala Jaaye To Azaab ki kami ka baaes hoga.
Isi Tarah ‘Har Wo Cheez Jis Se Barkat e Zikr Aur Quran Ka padhna is se Afzal Hai.”

1)Kabr Me Faut Shuda Ko Azaab : Kabr Me Murdo par Ajaab Hona ye gaib ki baat hai jo Huzoor Nabi E Karim صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم ka Kabr me Murdo k halaat se bhi wakif hai unki awaaj bhi sunte hai.
2)Nigahe Nabuwat صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم  Ka Aalam Kya Hai (Power of Seeing of Beloved Prophet صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم : Huzoor Rehmat E Aalam صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم Ki Nigaah Dekho Kabr Hai Kya Andar Kya Horha hai Ye bhi Dekh Rahe hai aur tum kahte ho hamari tarah hai.
3)Azaab Ki Wajah Bhi Batadi : Gaur Kare K sirf Azaab hona Hi nahi balki Huzoor Rehmat E Aalam صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم ne bhi bayan kar diya k Azaab ho kyu raha hai wajah kya hai wo bhi bata diya.
Jaahir si baat geebat karna peshab k karte se naa bachna ye insaan ka apna amal hai jo wo khud jaanta hai lekin Nabi E Karim صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم ne ye tak bata diya k inpe azaab kis badamli k sabab horha hai pata chala k ummati amal kya karta hai uske tamam amal bhi Mustafa Jaane E Rehmat  صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم se chupe nahi hai Aap صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم hamare chupake kiye amal se bhi amal waakif hai kon kya amal kar raha hai Huzoor صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم ye bhi jaante hai.
4)Deewar k Piche Ki Bhi Khabar Hai : To kis bina par ye wahabi ye akeeda rakhte hai k Nabi E Karim صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم ko Deewar k piche ki khabar nahi thi deewar to dur ki baat Ek deewar dekho is paar aap ho us paar koi hai uska faasla kitna hoga ek deewar zyada se zyada 1 feet moti hogi par kabr ka fasla kitna hai us deewar se bhi bahot zyada Nabi E Karim صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم ne us akeede ka bhi raddh kar diya jo ye kahe deewar k piche ki khabar nhi hai aur Sahaba ne bhi isko tasleem kar liya warna wo kah sakte hai ye to gaib ki  baat hai YA RASOOL ALLAH aapne Kaise bayan kardi ?

5)Geebat Aur Peshab K Katre Se Bachna bahot Jaruri Hai : Pata chala k insaan pe in chizo k wajah se bhi azaab hoga kabr me lihaja hume chahye k Geebat (backbitting) aur Peshab K karto se khud ko bachana chahye.
Note : Kuch jaahilo ne raddh e badmazhabiat munafikat ko GEEBAT ka naam diya hai ye jahalat hai 72 Gumraah sects ka raddh karna backbitting nahi balki ALLAH AUR RASOOL  صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم Ki Sunnat hai in khabiso ka raddh QURAN AUR Hadees me mauzood hai.
6) Is hadees se ye bhi wajeh huwa k Sabz Shak jab tak sukhti (Khushk) nahi hoti wo ALLAH Taala Ki Hamd O Sana Karti Hai lihaja Uski Tasbeeh karne k wajah se Kabr me Madfoon Mayyat k ajaab me narmi hoti hai to pata chala sirf rahaat dua se hi nahi balki in amal se bhi hoti hai aur yehi hadees se Aimma Fukaha ne Farmaya hai k Kabr Me SHAK aur Phool Daalna MUSTAHAB AUR BARKAT WAALA Amal hai.

Ab ye hadees dikhado to wo munkireen ki bolti band hojaygi lekin chunke awaam ko hamesha amal se khair o barkat se dur rakhna inka maksad hai lihaja aitraaz laynge k yaha to SHAAK ka hukm hai tum phool daalte ho biddat hai shirk hai.
Halanki ye to wajah huwa hai k biddat aur shirk to hargiz nahi hai chunki Phool daalna agarche hadees me nahi likha hai lekin ye amal ki asl Sunnat se saabit hai.

Is Hadees E Paak Se Fakaha Ne istedlaal kiya hai k Kabr Par Phool Daalna Accha amal hai chunki wo jab tak taaza hota hai Zikrullah karta hai.

1) Hadees me aaya hai k unlogo ki kabr me aazab horaha tha unke gunah k sabab Kya tum Walio ko bhi aisa samajhte ho jo unki kabr me phool daate ho ?

Al Jawab : Musalmaano k apne amal k lihaaj se darje hote hai baaj Swaleeheen aur baaz fasik o fazir hote hai Jo amal Fasik o fazir k gunaah maaf karne me kaam aata hai wohi amal Swaleeheen k darje badhata hai.
Example : Ek Gunaahgaar Fasik Masjid ki taraf Namaz o Zikr e Ilahi k liye jaata hai to uska chalna gunaho ko dhota hai lekin jab koi Nek Swaleheen banda chale to wo gunaah nahi dhota balki us bande k darjaat ALLAH k Nazdik uski Qurbiyat ko badhata hai.
Ek Fasik O Fazir zirk o Istegfaar karta hai uska gunaah mit ta hai par jab salaheen banda karta hai wo aur darje me bulani paata hai amal to ek hai dono ka par shaksiyat k darje badle uska natiza badal gaya.
Agar tumhare kanoon ko maana jaaye to phir to Saleeheen bande Tauba Istegfaar hi naa kare kyu ? wo to gunaah hi nahi karte to tauba ka kya matlab ? Tumhare Formula se to phir Salaheen ka Istegfaar karna hi durust nahi hoga.
2)Azaab E Kabr me Kami Huzoor Nabi E Karim صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم  Ki Dua se dur huwi naaki Shakho k wajah se ?

i) Awaal to ye mahez awaam ko dhoka dena hai k mahez dua se azaab dur huwa agar sirf Dua ka maamla hota to bina shaak tehni lagaye dua kar dete azaab kayamat tak dur hojata magar Tehni kyu lagayi ?
ii)Aur phir Yaha ye hadees me qaid kyu lagayi gayi k jab tak wo Tehni taaza hogi azaab me kami karegi ? Ye kyu farma balki ye kahdete k bas tehni lagi hai par dua hi asal hai tehni ka koi faida nahi, Maloom huwa k tum makkari farebkaari me dube huwe ho. 3) Kya Tum Nabi E Karim صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم  Ki Dua Ko Kamzor Samajhte Ho Jo Tehni aur phool daalte ho ?
Al Jawab :  Sudharna Islaah karna maksaad hota nahi lihaja bina haaath pair ki dalil laana yaha waaha k akli ghode hai bas yehi hai mukhalifeen k pass khair Iska bhi ilmi aur tehkeeki jawab de rhe hai hum
Beshak Nabi E KARIM ki dua kaynaat me sabse buland makam rakhti hai  
jisko ALLAH TAALA Raddh nahi karta.
Agar Nabi E Karim صلى الله عليه و آله وسلم ye dua karte k AYE ALLAH KAYAMAT TAK AANE WAALI UMMAT SE AZAAB E KABR KI NIZAAD DEDE aur kabool hoti to natiza ye nikalta logo ko Kabr k azaab ka khauf hi naa hota k abto bas kuch bhi karo kabr me koi azaab hi nahi hai us wakt waha un do kabr waalo k liye Dua kar dete azaab dur hojata par baad k jamane waalo ka kya ? bahot se aise Musalmaan bhi huwa aur aage bhi honge jo is haal me kabr me jaaynge ham aap dua kare kabool ho naa ho guarantee nahi hai hum bas dua kar sakte hai par Nabi E KARIM RAUF O RAHEEM hai apni ummat pe to ummat ko kabr se nizaad k liye ek aisa amal bata diya jisko amal karo tumhari dua ki guarantee nahi hai lekin wo tehni taaza phool jab tak sukh naa jaaye unki guarantee hai k wo ZIKR E ILAHI karnge to jab tak kabr k azaab se rahaat milegi wajah ye hai par afsoos hai tumhari soch pe har chiz ko ulta hi samajhte ho tumhari khopdi me baat kaha aati hai.
4)Fukaha E Ahnaaf Ne Bhi Isko Nazaiz o Haraam Likha Hai ?
Al Jawab : ye bhi bas hawai firing aur ek jhoot hai Fukaah E Ahnaaf ne ya dusre mazhab k fukah ne bhi isko Nazaiz Nahi kaha Hai agar sacche to saabit karo Quran Me Rab Taala Farmata hai
هاتوا بُرهانَكُم إِن كُنتُم صادِقينَ

In Ibarato Me jo farmaya K Kuch Ne Fatwa Diya Iska Matlab ye Nahi kuch Ulma Isko Nazaiz Bhi kahte hai balki matlab ye hai k Kuch Ne Isko SUNNAT maana Hai, JAIZ TO SAB HEE KAHTE HAIN SUNNAT HONE ME EKTELAF HAI”
